The Squaw Peak Regulars

What makes a Squaw Peak Regular? There is no stereotype, other than a love for hiking. Regulars climb Squaw Peak at least three times a week, and have been doing it more than a year. Many have been regulars for over ten years and hike five to seven days a week.

Hiking is healthy. They hike elsewhere whether it is in state, like the Grand Canyon, out of state like Mt Denali, and out of the United States including Mt Everest.

They are recognizable. They dress for comfort, not fashion. This includes loose clothes and footwear suitable for a rocky terrain. Most carry water, and cell phone for emergencies. Running down the trail, or off the trail, or leaving trash on the trail are frowned upon acts that will bring admonition from regulars.

Most importantly, regulars have a positive outlook on life. They greet others on the trail and ask how they are doing; most importantly, they genuinely want to hear a response. If anyone becomes ill or injured on the trail, regulars won’t abandon them before they get help off the trail.
